Letterkenny Accommodation - Donegal International Rally

The Donegal International Rally is an annual sporting event held in County Donegal, Ireland. It is one of Ireland's oldest annual rally competitions and is a top event in the Irish Rallying calendar. It has a reputation for being one of the country's most challenging rallies.  The event begins and concludes in Letterkenny.

The event began in 1972 with Cahal Curley the first winner. The event was postponed for the two consecutive years of 2001 and 2002 due to the Foot-and-mouth disease and a serious accident. The rally attracts approximately 50,000 spectators each year. The event is estimated to be worth over €20 million to the Donegal economy each year.

The current sponsors of the Donegal International Rally are Topaz, Ireland's largest fuel and convenience retailer and The Mount Errigal Hotel.

In May 2008 Topaz, announced its sponsorship of the  Donegal International Rally Ireland in a 3 year deal that will secure the future of one of Ireland’s oldest annual rally competitions. Topaz will invest almost a quarter of a million euro in sponsoring and supporting the event over the 3 years. The Topaz sponsorship will bring the Donegal Rally up to its 40th year.

This is the first major sponsorship for Topaz which acquired the Irish retail and commercial fuels businesses of Shell and Statoil in 2005 and 2006 respectively. The company recently announced that it will re-brand over 350 Shell and Statoil stations nationwide over the next 8 months.

The Topaz Donegal International Rally Ireland will see over 50,000 spectators line the route as Ireland’s premier rally drivers compete for championships points as part of the Global Group Irish Tarmac Rally Championship.

Sebastien Loeb proved that  he was a quick learner, when he powered home in the  2007 Shell Donegal International Rally. The World champion blazed his way to one of the most impressive wins ever witnessed in Irish rallying.
