Glebe House and Gallery - The
Derek Hill Collection
The Gallery is located in
converted stables next to a wonderful Regency Period House, built in
1828, set in mature woodland gardens. Anyone with an interest in
interior design will truly marvel at this place.
Glebe House Donegal itself was the home of Derek Hill, a renowned painter and
collector, and the catalyst behind the development of the Tory Island
school of primitive painting. He donated the house and his art
collection to the state, which remodelled the outbuildings to display
his fine collection of paintings.
Among the 300 paintings are works by Picasso, Bonnard, Yeats, Annigoni,
and Pasmore. The decoration in the house includes William Morris papers
and textiles, Victoriana,
Donegal folk art, and Japanese and Islamic
art.
Access to the house is by guided tour only. There is access to the
ground floor of the Gallery for people with disabilities. There are tea
rooms on this level. No toilet facilities for disabled. Guide dogs
permitted. Parking is 200 metres from gallery. People with disabilities are
permitted to park in front of the house.
Open June to October each year.
